Claude implementation for law firms
Imhauser Technologies sets up Claude for law firms of 2 to 25 people: on a company account, organized around your matters, connected to the tools you already use, with the skills your work needs, a draft AI use policy for your responsible attorney, and training that teaches attorneys and staff to verify everything Claude produces.
Claude licenses are billed by Anthropic directly to you. We never resell them or mark them up.

Your firm already uses AI. The question is how.
Recent surveys put AI use above 70% among solo and small firms, yet more than half of those firms have no AI policy, and more than half of respondents in another survey said their firm offers no training on responsible use. In practice that means attorneys and staff pasting client material into personal accounts, with nobody deciding what may go in or how the output gets checked.
The version that holds up to your ethics duties looks different: a company account on the right plan, Claude organized by matter so client information stays where it belongs, connected to your email, documents and legal tools, skills that produce your firm's documents in your firm's format, a written policy your responsible attorney has adopted, and a team trained to verify everything Claude produces. That is what we set up.
How law firms use Claude today
Larger firms have moved from experiments to firm-wide deployments, and the pattern is consistent: the policy and the limits on what information may be used come first, then the rollout. Typical attorney uses are summarizing depositions and long records, drafting routine correspondence and memos, comparing document versions and supporting due diligence.
In May 2026 Anthropic released Claude for Legal. As of October 2026 it has twelve practice-area plugins, among them commercial, corporate, employment, privacy, intellectual property and litigation, included with any paid Claude plan, and connectors to legal platforms such as iManage, NetDocuments, DocuSign, Box, Everlaw, Relativity, Thomson Reuters (Westlaw, CoCounsel and Practical Law) and LexisNexis, which need your firm's own subscription to each. Claude also works inside Word and Outlook.
The plugins work best once they are customized with a firm's own playbooks, precedents and house style. That customization is the core of this service: we install the plugins that match your practice, tailor them to your documents, and build the skills specific to your firm that no ready-made package covers.
What we set up for a firm like yours
Some first uses, always with an attorney reviewing the result before it reaches a client, a court or another party:
Estate planning
A summary of the client's goals, family and assets from the intake questionnaire; first drafts of plan summary and signing-meeting letters from your templates; lists of missing documents to request.
Real estate
Summaries of the purchase contract and title commitment; a closing checklist built from the contract's dates and conditions; client updates at each step.
Family law
Chronologies from client emails and messages; organized financial disclosures; first drafts of routine correspondence.
Personal injury
Medical record summaries and treatment timelines; demand letter first drafts in your firm's format; settlement status updates for clients.
Business and corporate
First-pass contract review against your playbook; NDA triage; minutes and resolutions from meeting notes.
Litigation
Deposition and document production summaries; matter chronologies from correspondence; first drafts of discovery responses for attorney review.
Every firm
Inbox triage and reply drafts; meeting notes turned into tasks; engagement letters from intake notes; client status updates in house style.
Ethics duties, and how the setup reflects them
Published guidance allows lawyers to use generative AI, subject to duties that already apply to every tool and every assistant. The main references for firms in our area are ABA Formal Opinion 512 (July 2024), the Virginia State Bar's guidance on generative AI (2024) and D.C. Bar Ethics Opinion 388 (April 2024). Each part of the setup is designed with those duties in mind.
| Duty | What the guidance asks, in short | How the setup reflects it |
|---|---|---|
| Competence | Understand what the tool can and cannot do, including its tendency to produce plausible errors | Training covers Claude's limits on your own documents, not only its strengths |
| Confidentiality | Know how the provider handles client information before putting any into it | A company plan whose content is not used for training by default, admin control over what Claude can reach, matter-level sharing, and data rules written into the policy |
| Supervision | Supervising lawyers make sure attorneys and staff use AI in line with the rules, and review the output | The policy names a responsible attorney; every skill ends with an attorney review step; staff get their own training |
| Candor | Never put a false statement of law or fact, such as an invented citation, before a court or another party | The citation check skill, a policy rule that every authority is verified against an authoritative source, and training on how to do it |
| Fees | Bill for time actually spent, not for time AI saved; pass on AI costs only where the fee agreement allows | A section in the policy where the firm records its billing approach |
| Communication | Consider when clients should be told how AI is used on their matters | Draft engagement letter language and a client FAQ, for the firm to use if it chooses |
We are not lawyers, and nothing in this service is legal advice. The policy and client language are drafts based on published guidance. Your responsible attorney reviews, adapts and adopts them, and the firm remains responsible for its own compliance with the Rules of Professional Conduct in each jurisdiction where it practices.
How it works
-
01
Readiness check and call.
A two-minute online readiness check, then a 30-minute call on your practice areas, your tools and the work that takes the most time. Within two business days you get a one-page note: the plan and seat mix we recommend, your top three use cases and which package fits, with a fixed price.
-
02
Discovery and data rules.
A 90-minute session with your responsible attorney and your champion (Firm Rollout adds a 45-minute interview per practice group, up to four). We agree what information may go into Claude, which matters or clients are excluded, and what must always be reviewed.
-
03
Setup.
Plan, admin settings, matter structure, plugins, connectors and skills, built and tested on your templates, closed matters or redacted documents. Weeks 1 to 3 for Practice Starter, 2 to 5 for Firm Rollout.
-
04
Pilot (Firm Rollout).
Two or three attorneys and a paralegal use it on live work for two weeks before the rest of the firm, so the skills fit how your attorneys actually work before everyone starts.
-
05
Training.
Hands-on sessions where each person does real work of their own with Claude, including the verification steps, plus a quick reference guide written for your setup.
-
06
Follow-up.
We answer questions, fix what does not fit and adjust skills as people use them: 30 days for Practice Starter, 60 for Firm Rollout, with an adoption check with your responsible attorney at 30 days (and at 60 for Firm Rollout).
Two fixed-price packages, one optional plan

What Claude itself costs
Anthropic's list prices as of October 2026, for US customers, before tax. Prices change, so we confirm current pricing in your readiness note.
| Plan | Price per person | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Team, standard seat | $20 a month billed annually, or $25 billed monthly | Right for most people. The Team plan covers 2 to 150 people and includes single sign-on, central billing and admin controls for connectors |
| Team, premium seat | $100 a month billed annually, or $125 billed monthly | Five times the usage of a standard seat, for heavy users such as litigators working through large productions. Seat types can be mixed |
| Enterprise | From $20 a month billed annually, plus usage at API rates | 20-seat minimum. Adds audit logs, automated user provisioning (SCIM), custom data retention and role-based access |
| Claude for Legal plugins | Included with any paid plan | The legal platforms they connect to (for example Westlaw, CoCounsel, LexisNexis, iManage, NetDocuments) are your own subscriptions with those vendors |
Example: a six-person firm on standard seats, billed annually, pays Anthropic $120 a month. With a one-time Practice Starter, the first-year total is about $5,340.
Confidentiality and your data
- Company accounts, not personal ones. Everyone signs in to the firm's account, so work product stays with the firm and leaves with nobody.
- No training on your content by default. On the Team and Enterprise plans, Anthropic states that it does not train its models on your content by default.
- Matters kept apart. Each matter's documents and conversations live in a project shared only with the people working on it.
- Your existing permissions still apply. Connectors sign in as each person, so Claude reaches only the email and documents that person can already open, and the walls you have set up in your document system stay in place.
- You decide what Claude can reach. Admins choose which connectors and features are allowed. Firms that need audit logs or custom retention move to Enterprise; firms that need client data to stay in their own cloud use the private Azure option.
- We handle your information as a vendor should. We sign your confidentiality agreement before we see anything, build and test on templates, closed matters or redacted documents unless you decide otherwise, and do not copy client documents out of your systems.
Who it is for
- Law firms with 2 to 25 people in McLean, Tysons, Vienna, Reston, Fairfax, Arlington, Washington DC and the wider area, or anywhere remotely
- Practice areas that run on documents, deadlines and repeated formats: estate planning, real estate, family law, personal injury, business and corporate work, and document-heavy litigation
- Firms already on Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace
- Firms where people already use AI on personal accounts, and the partners want that on a company account under a written policy
- A partner willing to own the AI use policy, and a champion (often a paralegal or office manager) who keeps it going after we leave
- Firms looking for AI that gives legal answers without attorney review: everything we set up ends with an attorney checking the work
- Firms looking for a legal research database: that is what Westlaw, Lexis and similar services are for. If you subscribe to one, we can connect Claude to it
- Firms expecting to replace staff with AI: we set Claude up to make your people faster, not to remove them
- Firms whose clients or protective orders rule out cloud AI entirely, unless the private Azure option meets those terms
What we do not do
- We are not lawyers and do not advise on the law, and we do not certify that your use of AI meets the rules: that judgment stays with the firm.
- We do not set Claude up to file, send, sign or bill anything on its own: an attorney approves anything that leaves the firm.
- We do not present Claude as a legal research database: every authority is checked against an authoritative source.
- We do not resell or mark up Claude licenses, and we take no commission from Anthropic.
- We do not promise a time saving, a productivity percentage or a headcount reduction.
We are independent. Imhauser Technologies is not affiliated with, endorsed by or a reseller for Anthropic. There is no sales quota or commission behind the plan we recommend, and the person who scopes your setup is the person who builds it and trains your team. Claude is a trademark of Anthropic, PBC.
Why Imhauser Technologies
Imhauser Technologies runs on Claude every day. It is connected to our email, files, CRM, accounting and task tracking; our own skills produce daily task digests, product documents and website changes; and we build connectors that let AI assistants work with real systems.
Behind that are 35 years of building software, including designing and building TheraDesk.AI, a complete AI platform on Microsoft Azure for mental health practices, where client confidentiality was the first design constraint. Before this service we offered law firms a self-hosted private language model on Azure; the private Azure matter assistant carries that work forward for firms that need it.
Questions law firms ask
Is it ethical for our firm to use Claude on client matters?
Published guidance, including ABA Formal Opinion 512, the Virginia State Bar's guidance and D.C. Bar Opinion 388, permits generative AI subject to the duties of competence, confidentiality, supervision, candor and reasonable fees. The setup and the draft policy are built around those duties. Whether your use meets them is a judgment your firm makes; we are not lawyers.
Do we have to tell clients we use AI?
Published guidance differs on when disclosure is needed, and it can depend on the client, the matter and your fee agreement. We give you draft engagement letter language and a client FAQ; whether and how you use them is your firm's decision.
Will Claude make up case law?
It can. That is why every package includes the citation check skill, a policy rule that every authority is verified, and training on doing it. If you subscribe to Westlaw, CoCounsel or LexisNexis we can connect Claude to it, but an attorney still checks every citation.
We use Clio (or MyCase, or Smokeball). Does Claude connect to it?
Not officially, as of October 2026. The practice management connector add-on covers it, either with a reviewed open-source connector (from $2,500) or one we build (from $4,500).
Why Claude rather than a legal-specific product such as Harvey, CoCounsel or Clio's own AI?
Legal-specific products have real strengths and their own pricing. Claude covers the whole firm's work, from email and documents to practice-area drafting and office administration, and it connects to CoCounsel and Harvey if you already use them. If a legal-specific product fits your firm better, we will say so on the readiness call.
Do we need the Enterprise plan?
Most firms under 20 people do not. The Team plan covers single sign-on, admin controls and connectors. Enterprise, with a 20-seat minimum, makes sense if you need audit logs, automated user provisioning or custom data retention.
Can client data stay in our own cloud?
Yes, with the private Azure matter assistant: Claude models run through Microsoft Foundry inside your Azure subscription, billed by Microsoft. It is a narrower tool than the Claude app, so most firms start with the Team plan and keep the private option for the matters that require it.
Are you lawyers? Are you an Anthropic partner?
No to both. We are an independent technology consultancy: the policy and client language we provide are drafts for your attorney, and our advice on plans and seats is not tied to any sales target. We set Claude up with Anthropic's own documented tools and settings, in an account that belongs to your firm.
Start with the free readiness check
It takes about two minutes and tells us enough to make the 30-minute call that follows useful. Within two business days you get a one-page note with the plan we recommend, your top three use cases and a fixed price.
